According to a new study – it has been worked out that the average Brit spends a huge 30 hours a week online – as two thirds of Brits now use the internet at work, however, many more log on for leisure and to utilise the internet to save time and money, the investigation revealed.

Interestingly, the results showed that 93% of consumers now shop online, and that 82% of broadband users also manage their finances online.

Maintaining their popularity, social networking sites such as Facebook, MySpace and Bebo capture 25% of people who log on at least once a day, with almost one third of 18-24 year olds spending over five hours a week socialising online.

BroadbandChoices.co.uk’s product director, Michael Phillips stated that the internet has become so much more than a commodity due to the fact that most users now see it as an everyday essential which they can’t live without. He continued by saying that as well as being, for example, a great learning tool and a way of tracking down and keeping in touch with friends and family – the internet can also save you money.
