Even though the Government has extended the scrappage scheme staff at Toyota in Burnaston, Derbyshire are returning to a shorter working week, reports thisisbusiness-eastmidlands.co.uk.

Increased orders meant that Toyota staff returned to working full time for a while but they have again returned to a shorter working week. This will be in place until the end of March next year.

Toyota staff must be thankful however because despite the downturn in car sales no one has yet been made redundant.

Elsewhere in Derbyshire Tarmac has announced job cuts at Tarmac Topfloor makes concrete products for the building industry. They have cut 26 jobs at the site between Derby and Ashbourne. This is the third round of job cuts the company has faced in the last twelve months and the number of job losses so far numbers 100.
