Solar Power – Use Your Head!
A teenager from Nepal has invented a solar panel using human hair and claims it could be the answer to the world’s energy needs and a new source of clean, renewable energy, reports dailymail.co.uk.
Milan Karki who is 18 says hair can be used as a conductor in solar panels, replacing silicon which is the expensive part of solar panels. The solar panel Karki has developed with his friends produces 9V (18W) of energy and only costs £23 to make. He says that if the panels are mass produced though they could be sold for even less. This would be a massive reduction on the current price of solar panels.
The solar panel developed by Milan Karki can charge a mobile phone or a pack of batteries which will provide light all evening. This would make a huge difference to the village where he comes from which is in a remote part of Nepal and still has no electricity.
