A massive solar power plant is being planned for Italy, reports rechargenews.com. The plant will become the biggest solar powered plant in Italy.

The plant will be built jointly by SunRay Renewable Energy (based in Malta) and US based SunPower, a solar panel manufacturer. The plan is for the 80 hectare site to be completed by the end of the year. The initial 24 MW solar plant at Montalto di Castro in Italy is the first phase of a 100MW development. This should be working fully by 2010.

The project is being financed by a consortium of international and Italian banks.
