Siemens is looking to build a site for one of the world’s biggest wind turbine factories, reports The Shields Gazette. Siemens are looking for a site on Tyneside to build the factory which could employ thousands of people if it’s given the go-ahead.

One of the sites being shown to the Siemens team is the former Swan Hunter shipyard. The site was bought recently by North Tyneside Council.

Only a few weeks ago Ed Miliband, the Energy Secretary, announced that the Government was giving Clipper Wind power a grant of £4.4m to help build a plant in the region. It’s hoped that around 1,000 jobs will be created once the factory is completed in Walker, Newcastle.

A Siemens spokesperson has confirmed that they are looking for sites for two factories and the UK was high on their list of possible candidates.
