Palm has announced that revenues are down by 82% for the last three months compared to the same time last year, reports guardian.co.uk. This comes after Palm launched its Pre smartphone as a direct competitor to Apple’s iPhone.

The majority of the phones they have sold in the last quarter are the touchscreen Pre phones which Palm hoped would revive the company’s fortunes.

Palm’s chief executive said he was happy with the progress made over the past few months and added that Palm would be launching further products in the near future. The new products would use Palm’s new software – WebOS.

The Palm Pre phone has been on sale in America since June and it’s due to go on sale in the U.K. later in the year in partnership with O2. O2 also has exclusive rights to Apple’s iPhone.

However, this loss for Palm is the company’s ninth quarterly loss in a row and while it has released innovating products over the years, it has struggled to keep up with Apple and the Blackberry.
