According to Northern Ireland’s Consumer Council – residents who had hoped for cheaper energy bills as a result of the latest electricity price cuts are probably going to feel somewhat let down considering the new rates are expected to amount to an annual saving of just £26 – a rather “disappointing” figure given that wholesale prices have fallen by 40% over the year.

Antoinette McKeown, Chief executive of the Consumer Council inputted that customers savings next month as a result of a 5% price drop will be “Negligible” and that although welcomed, the rate reduction will not benefit homeowners until the whole pricing infrastructure is reformed.

Ms. McKeown said that the Consumer Council is of the belief that the system in which electricity is bought and how the process are determined is transparent but flawed and this costs consumers more money, therefore, she is advising residents to be “as energy efficient as possible” to ensure you save money on your energy bills.
