3M is a diversified technology company providing customers and communities with innovative products and services, with seven businesses each earning leading global market positions. As reported by utilityweek.co.uk 3M has launched its 3M ACCR (Aluminium Conductor Composite Reinforced) cable in the UK.

ACCR has been designed as a ‘drop-in’ replacement for existing electrical conductors and is capable of doubling the transmission capacity of the line.

The conductor has a multi-strand aluminium composite core design, with the strength and stiffness of steel core conductors, but weighing half as much and is also able to continuously handle 210C (and in an emergency 240C), with less sag than traditional conductors.

3M states that ACCR, which is currently being used in 20 countries, avoids the need for rebuilding or the addition of new substations and does not require the height of existing pylons to be raised in order to increase clearance levels.

3M remains committed to actively contributing to sustainable development through environmental protection, social responsibility and economic progress.
