Microsoft has announced that it’s giving students the chance to get their hands on Windows 7 OS at a reduced price, reports telegraph.co.uk. Microsoft is offering Windows 7 Home Premium edition and Windows 7 Professional edition for £30 each. They will normally be sold at £79.99 and £189.99 respectively.

The new operating system can be pre ordered by students from September 30. Windows 7 is due to go on sale in shops on October 22nd. The student offer runs until 3rd Jan and to be eligible students need a valid email address from their college or university.

The student discount offered by Microsoft is seen as a direct attempt to compete with Apple. Their Mac laptops are popular with students and their new Snow Leopard operating system costs £29.99 for all Mac users.
