GE Energy Acquires Wind Turbine Manufacturer
GE Energy has taken over the Norwegian turbine manufacturer ScanWind, reports rechargenews.com. The deal emphasises GE Energy’s commitment to offshore wind power and after the acquisition of ScanWind their plans to develop a 3.5 MW turbine for offshore markets was announced.
The vice president of renewable energy at GE Energy said they expected to invest around $200m over the next few years in offshore wind technology. Meanwhile the managing director of GE Wind Energy Norway said that the takeover would give GE Energy “the muscle to move forward into the offshore wind market”.
