EDF Energy has announced it will increase gas prices by 6.5% and electricity prices by 7.5% from 2 March.

After promising not to increase energy prices until March, EDF Energy has kept its word but has just announced gas and electricity prices will increase on 2 March.

Like other energy suppliers who have increased prices over the last few months, EDF Energy has blamed the price rises on the increase in wholesale gas prices and an increase in other charges.

E.ON’s price increase which announced last year comes into effect tomorrow and customers will see their electricity prices rise by an average of 9% while gas prices will increase by an average of 3%.

EDF Energy is the last of the big six energy companies to announce price increases but it maintained its prices during the big freeze in November/December.

Meanwhile Ofgem is still investigating rising energy prices and will announce its findings in March.
