Welsh homeowners hoping for a cheaper energy supply have been offered a helping hand as part of a major initiative promoting efficient fuel use in Aberdare in the Cynon Valley – benefits will include new boilers, smart meters and solar power systems which have been designed to reduce energy consumption across the region.

The Welsh Assembly is hoping to make Aberdare one of the UK’s first low-carbon towns and in doing so will also install low-energy street lights throughout together with provisioning for the next 15 years where 40,000 homeowners will receive upgrades designed to encourage better standards of energy efficiency that will result in reduced energy bills.

Environment minister Jane Davidson hopes that the project will pave the way for other areas to follow suit.
