ERGEG is the committee of national electricity and gas regulators in the European Union and as the European Commission’s formal advisory group of energy regulators it has launched a consultation on the investment plans of European electricity utilities and whether they can ensure that capacity and networks will be sufficient for Europe’s needs.
The group advises that this step is necessary to examine the full picture of factors as well as impact of generation adequacy treatment in electricity markets in Europe. Following the consultation it hopes to advance discussions on finding solutions and improving certainty for investors, generators, network planners and electricity market participants.
ERGEG’s members are the heads of the national energy regulatory authorities in the 27 EU Member States and they have asked for responses to the consultation by April 27, 2010.
