SSE Renewables Projects On Target

Scottish & Southern Energy (SSE) shareholders have been told that renewable projects are on target after they made solid progress last year, reports New Energy Focus. SSE has £1.3bn of renewables projects which it says remain on schedule.

SSE has said in an interim statement that it is on course to reach its financial goals and operational targets up until the end of March this year.

SSE’s projects include the Greater Gabbard project off the Suffolk Coast, which should eventually generate 500MW. So far 69 of the 140 turbine foundations have been installed. The energy company also has a wind farm project in Clyde where work is continuing and they have also started to build the Griffin wind farm in Perthshire.

Scottish & Southern Energy also bought a 25.1% stake in the Walney offshore wind project from Dong Energy – this wind farm is being developed in the Irish Sea.

SSE also has a hydro electric scheme at Glendoe. However, there was a rockfall in August last year which partially blocked a tunnel which connects the reservoir to the power station. SSE said it doesn’t expect the plant to generate any electricity until 2011/2012.
