Public Help Needed To Name Clean Energy Device

Scotrenewables, the Orkney based energy developer, wants the public to name a device that generates electricity from the sea, according to The Highlands and Islands Enterprise.

The multi million pound device makes use of the energy from tidal currents. The area around the Pentland Firth and the Orkney Islands are regarded as some of the best places in the world to harness the power from waves and tides.

Scotrenewables has received backing from the energy giant Total and also Fred Olsen Renewables. However, the company now wants the public’s help to decide on a name for the device. They are looking for a name which reflects what the device does and the fact that it’s from the Scottish Highlands and Islands.

The managing director of Scotrenewables said the company had strong links with both Norway and Scotland and was proud of its Viking heritage. The firm is looking for a name which reflects both the heritage of the islands and the fact that the device can generate clean, sustainable energy from the sea.

Scotrenewables said there would be a prize for the winning name. Suggestions can be sent to the company at competition@scotrenewables.com
